Lufkin forces rubber match.

The visiting Klein Oak Panthers came into the game today with a one to nothing lead in the best of a three game series in the post district Texas high school playoffs.  Leadoff batter Scott Arthur quickly lands on first base with a single.  Kaleb Goodell then moves Arthur to second base with a sacrifice bunt.  Wes Theiss  sends a laser line drive down to first base which was hit into the Lufkin first basemans glove for the second out.  Garrett Harrison then grounds out to second for the final out.  Bottom of the first Garrett Harrison takes the mound for the KO Panthers and quickly sits down the first three Lufkin Panthers. 

Top of two.  The KO Panther go down on, two, three.  Bottom of the second and Harrison see’s four Panthers and allow one hit.  First out of the inning was a Gold Star play by third baseman Ausitn Jackson when Lufkin first baseman and cleanup hitter comes to bat an send an absolute laser line drive three foot above Jacksons head which could have easily been a double,  Jackson quickly reacts and pulls the ball down for the first  one. The Panther finish the inning with fly ball to Kaleb Goodell and a Harrison strike out.  Zip to zip.

Top of three, KO Panthers put together their first run of the day with CJ Manning hitting a full count single.   Arthur gets a free trip to first,  then Goodell hits a single which loads the bases.  Wes Theiss hits a first pitch single and score the first Panther run of the day.  Harrison takes the mound after he hits into double play to end the inning.  Harrison sees four batters and gives up one hit and striking out the last batter.    1-0 KO Panthers.

In the top of the fourth inning Panthers had four batters with Walker left on base after he hit a single.  Bottom of the fourth inning, Harrison sit’s down three Lufkin batters in a row with two fly balls one to Goodell, one to Walker and a ground ball to first baseman Brent McMinn.

The top of the fifth the Panthers manufacture two hits, the first by Manning, his second hit of the game, then Arthur pounds another single, also his second hit of the game.  Lufkin manages to get out of the inning without allowing any runs scored.  Harrison has his toughest inning with the leadoff batter hitting a double, next batter moves him to third.  Harrison gives up two runs on four Lufkin hits in this inning.  1-2 Lufkin leads.

The sixth inning brought only three Panther batters.  The bottom of the sixth Harrison and Panther defense returned the favor and  sat down three in a row with two strikeouts.

The final inning of the game Panther could not muster up the winning run, final score Lufkin 2 KO Panthers 1.
