Panthers fall to Klein 12-2.

March 19, 2008

Oak faced Klein’s number one pitcher tonight Matt Purke, and his pitching was tough. He had 12 strikeouts against the Panther offense. Oak’s only hits tonight came from singles from Scott Arthur, Wes Theiss, and Ethan Carnes.

Oak scored in the 4th inning when leadoff batter Arthur singled to third. He advanced on a balk and then scored when Theiss got on with an error at third. In the fifth inning, Carnes led off the inning with a single to right and advanced to third on an error. Ryan Hudnall (who has not been in the batting cages in weeks) grounded out at first earning an RBI when Carnes scored.

Wes Theiss had one strikeout as the starting pitcher tonight for the Panthers and gave up five hits and five runs against the solid hitting Bearkats in the first two innings. Ryan Hudnall came in to pitch in the third inning and finished the game. Hudnall had a few walks, but the fans felt like those were questionable with what seemed to be some inconsistent calls behind the plate. However, you can’t take away the hits from the Klein offense tonight. Hudnall had two strikeouts and gave up seven runs.

Defensively, we had a few errors in our usually solid infield, but the Panther outfield was steady with Andy Wilson (LF), Kaleb Goodell (CF), and Garrett Harrison (RF) busy grabbing numerous fly balls. Catcher CJ Manning picked off a runner trying to steal second.

Let’s come back and beat Klein Forest tomorrow night in game three of district play.
