Panthers  Bring the Sticks and Go Errorless in 11-1 Victory Over Klein Forest!

April 15, 2008

Panther starter Chase Barnett took the mound and saw nine batters for his brief four inning outing, which included three strike outs two hits and NO Walks.

Defensive Gold Star plays included a great backhanded play by third basemen Austin Jackson for  the second out of the first inning.  The bottom of the first inning the Panthers piled on seven earned runs with leadoff batter Scott Arthur walking, a single by Kaleb Goodell, a walk by Wes Theiss; a single by Garrett Harrison drew the first blood of the night scoring Arthur.  The freshman slugger, Travis Walker, then bangs a grand slam home run over the left field fence to clear the bases.  Andy Wilson comes to the plate and pounds a double and steals third base to set up a C.J. Manning RBI single; not to be out done by, Arthur returns to the plate with an RBI triple.  Panthers seven, the Golden Eagles nil.

The top of the second inning was like the first with three batters, three up three down, with another marvelous, Gold Star defensive third out with Arthur sweeping four feet past second base to field a hard hit ground ball to throw out the third out at first base.  The Panther bats in the bottom of the second took a brief rest seeing only four batters with Harrison left on base.

The top of the third again the Panthers silenced the Golden Eagles with three batters, two of which Barnett sat down with strike outs.  Panther bats rested again in the bottom of the forth with four batters and Arthur left on base only after he picked up another stolen base.

The top of the fourth inning the Panthers gave up the only Golden Eagles run of the night on two hits while two men were left on base.  Garrett Patterson replaced Manning behind the dish for a flawless three innings of catching.  The Panthers then came to bat and scored their eighth run of the night when Walker hit a two out single and Wilson puts up another RBI in the book with a hard hit ground ball to the Klein Forest first basemen; Wilson, with heady base running, advances from first to an uncovered second base and then two pitches later steels third base but is left stranded for the conclusion of the bottom of the fourth.

The fifth inning the Panthers turn to the bull pen for reliever, Freshmen Kaleb Goodell , who saw only four batters, striking out two and giving up his only hit of the night.  The bottom of the fifth Panthers came up and went down resting for the sixth inning.

The top of the sixth Goodell retired three consecutive batters with a strike out and two ground balls put outs at first from left side of the infield, Jackson and Arthur to Brent McMinn at first base.

Needing three runs to go home early the Panthers answer the call in the bottom of the sixth with four singles by Goodell, Theiss, Harrison and Wilson with Austin Jackson putting the final touch on the ball game with a sacrifice fly ball to right field which scores Harrison for the eleventh run of the game to end the game with ten runs after five innings.

It’s Spring Time!
