The Klein Oak Sophomores played one of
their great signature games Friday night to end the season with a
win against Westfield 21-2. Great pitching, defense and offensive
bats ended a great season on a high note.
Chris Thompson started on the mound for
the Panthers and a quick 6-3 defensive play between Zach Schulze and
Jacob Fowler recorded the first out of the game. A strike out to
the next batter and a pop up to Schulze at short quickly ended the
inning with only three batters at the plate.
Oak came to bat and were ready to make
something happen early. Schulze walked and Jacob Fowler's RBI
single scored him quickly. A home run by Steven Butler brought in
two more and with one out Oak was up by three. Thompson walked and
Arthur singled bringing Sloan up to bat for a single that scored
Thompson. The inning ended with Oak up 4-0.
Thompson and the Oak's defense made
quick work of the Westfield batters in the top of the second,
starting with a nice 4-3 play between Arthur and Fowler and two
quick strike outs to the next two consecutive batters. Oak went
back to work with the bats starting with an in the park home
run shot to the right fence by J P Phillips that added another run
to the scoreboard for Oak. Schulze was hit by a pitch and Chris
Thompson singled with two outs. Both runners were left stranded and
Oak was up 5-0.
The top of the third, a pop up to Arthur
and a strike out put two quick outs on the board. Two singles by
the next two batters and a throwing error combined to allow two runs
for Westfield and another nice 4-3 play ended the inning. With one
out in the bottom of the third, Sloan walked and Hoffmans was hit by
a pitch. Phillips' single scored Sloan and a single by Schulze
scored Hoffmans. Fowler reached on a single and a 2 base RBI by
Butler scored Schulze. Thompson's singled with two outs scoring
Fowler and the inning ended with Oak adding another 4 to the count.
The top of the fourth brought changes to
the lineup with Nick Bradley coming in to pitch, Peter Crews going
to left, Cody Steel to right, Cody Emerson to first and Jacob Fowler
to catcher. Bradley faced his first batter and quickly struck him
out. A two base hit put a Westfield runner on but a strike out to
the next batter kept him on second. The fourth batter was hit by a
pitch but a pop up behind the plate brought Emerson up for the catch
and the inning ended with two Westfield runners stranded.
The bottom of the fourth brought
everyone to bat at least once. Oak started off with a double by
Emerson, Crews was hit by a pitch and Steele walked to load the
bases. Phillips walked, scoring Emerson. Schulze followed with a
well hit single that scored Crews and Steele and when Fowler walked,
Westfield switched pitchers. Butler singled, scoring Phillips and
Arthur's single scored Schulze. This brought us back to the lead
off guy for the inning, and Emerson crushed the ball for a double
scoring Fowler and Butler. With two outs in the inning, Crews was
hit by a pitch, Steele walked and a single by Phillips scored Crews
and Emerson. Schulze crushed the ball for two bases and scored
Steele and brought up Fowler. Fowler singled, scoring Phillips and
a walk by Butler put another runner on. When the inning ended, Oak
had scored 12, going into the 5th up 21-2.
The Panthers switched some defense
again, putting Emerson on third and Butler at first for the 5th
inning. A 6-3 play from Schulze to Butler recorded the first out of
the inning. Bradley walked the next batter but a fly out to
Phillips and a 4-3 play ended the game.
Great season guys!
