This one was the one that nearly got away. Leading 7-1 at the top of
the 6th it was surely a formality Oak would close the game out
comfortably...... wrong ! The bottom of the 6th saw Tomball score 6
runs from a series of errors and walks with NO hits. Into the 7th
and it looked like Oak would regain the lead when Tyler Mason hit a
bomb to right field with 2 outs and bases loaded.....but the Tomball
right fielder made a spectacular over the shoulder sliding catch at
the base of the right field wall to prevent a score. Oak held
Tomball in the bottom of the 7th so it was into the 8th. In the 8th
Oak showed grit and determination to string together 4 hits and add
4 runs. This time at the bottom of inning of the game Oak got the 3
outs they needed to win the game with a final score of 11-7. A late
night at the ball park this one !
Leading the hitting was Dom Smith wth a fantastic 4 for 4 and 3
RBI's, all 4 hits being doubles. Brandon McLain was 3 for 3 with 2
RBI's. There were also RBI's for Wade Halfmann, Luis Armas, Dustin
Haines, Justin Jones and Blake Diver.
Dustin Haines had another solid outing on the mound (5.2/3 IP, 5H,
3BB, 6K's, 1ER) and had the game under control until the calamitous
6th. Dom Smith pitched to one batter to allow Tyler Mason to warm up
and then Tyler pitched the last 3 innings to secure the win.
