Panthers outlast Spring to grab 8-7 victory!
This was one of those proverbial "game of
two halves".
The first half was a great pitching duel with Alex Belcher for Oak keeping
Spring down to one run off 3 hits through 5 innings. Likewise the Spring pitcher
held Oak to just one run through 4 innings.
In the bottom of the 5th we went into the second half of the game which became a
hitting fest. Dustin Haines started it off with a lead off double to left center
field. Blake Diver followed suit with his own double down the 3rd base line
scoring Dustin and then Jacob Fowler scored Blake's run with a single down the
first base line.
Spring weren't to be out done and came out swinging at the top of the 6th. 3
hits later they had scored 3 earned runs and were now leading the game 4-3.
Oak are making a good habit of never giving up and true to form they responded
admirably in the bottom of the 6th. Cody Emerson got it started this time with a
double and then the Spring pitcher lost the strike zone walking 3 and hitting 2
batters. Jacob Fowler came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a double
into left center clearing the bases. 5 runs in the inning and Oak led 8-4.
Now all that was needed was a quick 3 outs and we could go home with a good win.
Well baseball is never that kind and Spring weren't finished yet. They started
with a double which was scored with a sacrifice fly and then followed with a HR
and another double which was scored so now the score was 8-7 with 2 outs. Jacob
Fowler came in and relieved Alex Belcher and remained calm to get the last out.
Stats for the game:
